The Secret History of the Tennis Bracelet (and why you should own one!)
It’s not often that you can credit a sport star with kicking off a whole new jewelry trend, but that’s exactly what happened when tennis player
Chris Evert walked on to the court in 1987. She was no stranger to the spotlight – she won eighteen Grand Slam titles over the course of her career – but this day was special.
Midway through this US Open match, her bracelet fell off. It was a thin row of diamonds, and Evert (appropriately already christened “The Ice Maiden”) asked the umpire to stop the match until the bracelet had been recovered. To the surprise of everyone, he agreed, and the press and public went wild!
Evert did not go on to win that match, but she did create an unprecedented demand around the world for these previously named ‘eternity bracelets’ and helped to create the classic ‘tennis bracelet’ that is now known as one of the most elegant and understated pieces of jewelry around.

They are a fantastic gift, whether the giftee is someone else or a special treat for yourself - it still counts! Because they are so understated, they are great for adding a touch of something special to both everyday outfits and eveningwear. The way they slip up and down the wrist (when sized correctly) adds a flirty element, and their slim-line design means they also look great when combined with other bracelets, or even a watch.
The popularity of tennis bracelets really comes down to one thing: they’re designed to be worn every day, and isn’t wearing diamonds every day every girl’s dream...?
It’s possible to have a variety of setting styles for the diamonds. The 2.00ctw 14k White Gold "Three-Prong" Diamond Tennis Bracelet seen
here and pictured below features a three prong setting for each of the individual diamonds.
While the 3.00ctw 14k White Gold "X-Prong" Diamond Tennis
here (pictured below) holds each diamond in place with four crossing prongs – hence the ‘x-prong’ reference.
And there are more contemporary takes on the classic design –
this 14K White Gold Full-Bezel "Scattered" Diamond Tennis Bracelet features 80 diamonds in a full-bezel scattered design, fusing both the classic and the modern (see below).
All of those diamonds use A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Diamond Melee, selected for their superior quality and light reflecting properties. In fact, each of the diamonds has 57 perfectly aligned facets, which means that they reflect the maximum amount of light. When you have diamonds of this type in-line as you do a tennis bracelet, you create something that will flash its beauty for all to see and for years to come.
Has all this made you want to indulge in a tennis bracelet? We can promise you, it is likely to become your most worn piece of jewelry (the
Huffington Post named it as one of the five pieces of jewelry everyone should own!). You can check out our full collection of tennis bracelets
