According to reports from the Ghana news agency, that country has inaugurated a Kimberley Process Certification Oversight Committee in an effort to ensure that conflict diamonds will not cross that nation’s borders.
At the Kimberley Process Plenary in Botswana last month Ghana was accused of allowing
diamonds from the Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) to enter the country for illicit export with Kimberley Process certificates. Ghana was given three months to take measures to take action to strengthen internal controls.
